Our Projects

NSW Hunter Local Land Services

Cool Burn delivered these services for the NSW Hunter Local Land Srvices on rural lands, that would inform several small and culturally led, prescribed burns in grassy woodland ecosystems in the Upper Hunter, NSW. The aim is to gather farmers, land managers and local indigenous community together to demonstrate and share knowledge of indigenous fire practices.

The project outcomes would provide scientific evidence to support the use of prescribed fire as a land management tool, and to facilitate the creation of new and valuable jobs in sustainable land and natural resource management.

Consultation with landholders and project coordinators identified suitable sites.
We prepared prescribed burn plans to identify risk and safely conduct the fires, and to attain any required approvals.
We also prepared a scientific experimental design and methodology to monitor biophysical characteristics such as biodiversity, biomass, soil carbon).
