Overview
Cool Burn, a specialised bushfire planning consultancy, was engaged to support the rezoning process for Marsden Park North, located in Sydney’s North West Growth Area. The NSW Government, alongside Council and key stakeholders, is leading this significant project to rezone land for employment, residential, conservation, and recreational uses.
Challenge
As part of the strategic planning process, a comprehensive bushfire risk assessment was required to ensure that future development balances growth with community safety and environmental sustainability. The challenge was to provide a risk-based, forward-looking bushfire strategy that would meet regulatory requirements while also supporting community preparedness and resilience.
Solution
Cool Burn was engaged by the lead Environmental Consultant to deliver expert bushfire planning advice and future-focused strategies. Our approach included:
- Strategic bushfire planning assessment to minimise risk and enhance preparedness.
- Bushfire prone land mapping to identify high-risk areas.
- Land-use planning, vegetation management, and hazard reduction strategies to support safe development.
- Stakeholder and community consultation to ensure transparent communication and engagement.
- Participation in design and planning meetings to guide best-practice implementation.
Impact
The outcomes of this work will provide a clear and practical bushfire strategy that integrates with the overall land-use plan for Marsden Park North. By embedding bushfire resilience measures into the planning framework, the project supports safer, sustainable, and resilient communities for the future.
