Cool Burn are a fire and ecology specialist team. We are a conduit for identifying and planning for the best ecological outcomes for many projects and land managers.

Cool Burn is committed to providing a friendly and quality service and delivering on time.

The organisation has been operating since 2020. Cool Burn Director Dan Pedersen has been providing and developing bushfire planning, ecological assessment and landscape management services since 2002.

The family business combines with a network of talented and experienced sub-consultants, and together have the capacity to deliver bushfire planning and environmental monitoring from state significant developments to more personal projects, including home construction and subdivisions. 

What we represent

At Cool Burn we look at our natural environment and seek to learn more about the natural elements, changing climate, seasonal variations, ecological responses and and how they are impacted by fire cycles and management of the land. The four elements Air, Water, Earth and Fire, as represented in our logo, and encompass our values.

Dan Pedersen

Director & Principal Bushfire Consultant & Ecologist

Dan has over 20 years’ experience in environmental and bushfire planning consultancy across NSW, QLD, NT, SA and VIC, supporting government, major infrastructure, and private projects. Combining his unique experiences, ecological and land management knowledge with bushfire planning and engineering, Dan brings a holistic assessment of bushfire risk and environmental impacts to land use projects and delivers feasible and sustainable landscape management and risk mitigation actions.

Dan enjoys being emersed within nature and connected to the land. He is driven by a sense of responsibility to protect and plan for healthy, productive environments. Dan also understands the requirements and demands of construction and development and loves to find the best environmentally sustainable outcome.

Dallas Milburn

Principal Consultant

Dallas has an agricultural background, growing up on farms in the North Island NZ. With this rural and innovative background and more than fifteen years’ experience in environmental consultancy, Dallas has acquired specialised experience in the understanding of ecological systems and cycles, the processes of environmental conservation and understanding the context of environmental assessments. This unique experience has provided confidence and innovation to many projects for clients including Defence, local and state government, civil infrastructure, energy sectors and private enterprise.

Dallas has significant project management experience, delivering highest quality service to his clients and working with multiple stakeholders. His project experience and professional approach provide open and honest guidance to the decision making process. 

Fishing, gardening, botany and bush walking are some of Dallas’ leisure activities, deepening his passion and knowledge of the natural world.

Lili Pedersen

Marketing and Media

Lili has experience working with people and in customer service for over 7 years. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design, focusing her works on social media platforms, including editing, graphics, and website maintenance.

Young and vibrant, and currently residing in Western Australia, Lili has a natural flair for the arts and design, a desire to travel and experience different cultures, and a strong sense of fairness and equality. She brings this passion into her roles as customer and consumer management and in her studies in design and media.

Kristy Peters

Senior Ecologist and Ornithologist

Kristy has experience working in the Ornithology field for over 15 years, currently a Director and Principal Ecologist for Wingbeat. She has skills in project managing, ecological survey and assessment, data analysis and quality assurance.

Kristy and her young family manage a rural property in the rich and fertile Gloucester Valley, NSW, where they have a small herd of Angus cattle and an extensive and productive garden. Kristy’s career objective is to dedicate her specialist ecological and project management skillset, passion for ornithology and team-oriented working style to undertaking projects which strategically improve conservation outcomes for Australian birds.

Daniel Smith

Environmental Planning and Development

Bachelor of Admin in Marine Resources, Australian Maritime College

Working with Cool Burn since its inception, and partnering with Dan Pedersen since 2009, Daniel provides additional experience and capacity for Cool Burn to deliver on projects.

Running a successful sole trader business since 2004, Daniel has over 18 years experience in project and development planning. Daniel specialises in Aquatic Surveys and Assessments in the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney Basin regions. He has extensive knowledge and experience in preparing Development Applications for Council approvals, Bushfire Assessment Reports and Statement of Environmental Effects.

Daniel is at one with the Lake Macquarie aquatic ecosystems, with a life-long connection and extensive knowledge of natural cycles and abundant marine life. If he is not fishing in his spare time, he is in the NSW central west fossicking and detecting for gold.
